Was your mom estrogen positive? I was and am having the same issue w my daughter. If so talk to your doc about a non estrogen form of birth control. Let me know what you find out. Lisa

There are so many other side effects beyond breast cancer(stroke, blood clots, weight gain) and you can't know if you'll be a candidate especially for long- term. There are many other contraception methods out there. Do your research and see if you are a candidate for the genetic testing before you manipulate your hormones. Good for you in thinking before you leap.

Just like Marianne, I have no family history of breast cancer anywhere in my family and I did not take birth control pills either. At 59, I had IDC. Again, her advise to discuss this in depth with your gyn. is excellent. BIrth control pills to offer some protection against ovarian cancer which is a much more aggressive type of cancer. I don't mean you have to pick your poison but I don't think there is that much correlation between birth control pills and breast cancer.
