I only had 1 surgery and would have had to have another had I not gone through radiation. I had a friend who had 2 surgeries. I would have gone through surgery as many times as necessary to get clear margins. It sounds like you are concerned so I would talk with my doctor about those concerns and maybe he/she can shed some light on why it took 3 times. God bless you and good luck to you.

Well I have already had 2 surgeries and my next is scheduled for the 21st. I have already been told that I will be having radiation afterwards. The margins that were positive with the 1st surgery came back negative with the 2nd surgery but a side that was negative with the 1st surgery is now positive. I know of people who have had the 2 surgeries, was just wondering if anyone else had to do 3?

I don't know of anyone who has had to have 3 surgeries. I would certainly talk with my doctor about my concerns. Good luck to you and keep me posted.

      Hi,
I had 3 lumpectomies before deciding to have a bilateral mastectomy. I was actually told after my initial biopsy, that they had removed most of the cancer during the biopsy. MRI did't detect anymore cancer, but the 3 lumpectomies did. My surgeon said it was scattered like gunshot thoughout my breast. Turned out the good breast also had cancer in it. It was a nightmare.
