It has been four days since my second treatment and I am beginning to lose what's left. As hard as it may be, I have decided to shave the remainder and try to get past it.

I spoke with women that had gone through the same thing and most said the decided to have it cut or buzzed before it started to come out or when it first began. When I began noticing mine coming out, I had my boyfriend buzz it for me. It would have been too difficult to watch it come out in clumps. Plus it made me feel empowered. I think the anxiety about losing my hair was worse than it actually being gone. Afterwards I felt I relieved. I had one step over with...then could move on to the next step! I wear scarves a lot. There are some great organizations where you can get beautiful scarves and wigs from. Just let me know if you'd like the links. Wishing you the best!

Greetings Francine in preparation of being told that I would lose my hair once I started chemotherapy I did a pre cut into a cute short style prior to starting my treatments. 14 days after my 1st round of Chemotherapy my hair started shedding. Since I didn't want to wake up daily running to the mirror to see how much was coming out and having hair loss spots all over my head I made an appointment with a barber and had it shaved off knowing that it would eventually grow back I got use to the new look and honestly prefer the bald look over the thinning and shedding . I received many compliments with the bald look. Not sure if people were just giving me the compliments out of sympathy or if they were sincere (LOL) After completing all my treatments it eventually started growing back. Also I have to admit it was quite interesting having various hair styles as my hair continued to grow different lengths. But the bottom line is that you must be happy in whatever decision you make as to cutting it now or just letting it shed daily. Continue to stay encouraged and know that someone that has walked in your shoes is keeping you lifted up in prayer.

My hair didn't fall out until day 20 (with chemo treatment #1 being day 1). When it did start falling out it came out fast. What helped me was that I shaved my head around day 10 so that I would be ready when it did come out. To me, having 1/8" hair come out was less traumatizing than having 8"...

I finished my 8th and final treatment last week! I wish you the best of luck!

Mine came out in small clumps after 12 days. On day 14, I shaved it and had a Mohawk. Having it come out in hair brush, shower, elastic, etc., was too upsetting, so taking control was important . No other signs I noticed...
Best wishes
Hi Lori, my scalp felt a little tight & tingly a couple of days before my hair began to fall out. It was on day fourteen when it started coming out.

I would love to hear how, and if, it works. When receiving chemotherapy, it targets cells that are the type that divide rapidly. Since hair is that type, that is why your hair drops out. Are you receiving chemotherapy? I asked my oncologist, after I received the first treatment, how long before I lost my hair? He said 2 weeks.... and it was right on the 2 week point! I reached up to scratch my head and a clump of hair was in my hand. I just say, it really disturbed me. I went right out to my barn and got my horse clippers, and shaved my head. That slow falling out stuff was for the birds! I wanted to get that over with. I know this is kind of going off the tracks a bit but even though I bought a wig, and scarves, etc., etc. I was just much more comfortable "GOING COMMANDO"!!!! BALD! I did wear a bit of a beanie, only because my head got cold. In my photo.... I am wearing reindeer antlers to one of my treatments and laughing about it. I didn't want to hide from people and make this a big secret. I wasn't dying, I was still laughing, and certainly still myself. So Kim, if your plant oils don't retain your hair.... be proud of your "Chrome-Dome" wear it proudly..... unless it is -20 outside!
That sounds wonderful because your skin goes through some changes when on chemo. I never lost my eyebrows during treatment for which I was ever so grateful! Hang in there and do what makes you feel the best. This is all just a temporary in the big picture.... and just in case, get an eyebrow...

When I underwent chemo the first time...my hair began to grow back a few days before my last chemo treatment (Taxol). As for tasting my food. My last go round with two different chemo drugs gave me a platinum taste in my mouth. It's been almost 5 weeks & my food tastes better, although there are a few things that turn my stomach now. Like oily meats such as pepperoni, etc. Maybe it's because my boyfriend cooked so many Digiornos frozen pizzas when I was going through chemo. Lol. Can't even look at a 3 meat frozen pizza in the store without almost gagging! Lol
I can't remember how long until I got my old taste for my two favorite things.... coffee and chocolate came back. I think it was pretty quickly.

As for my hair, I completed chemo. in the first part of January and have a picture of me with my 60th birthday cake April 14th and my hair has grown out to a very short "buzz" cut. It just takes a while!!! I will be interested to hear more stories.

Learning About Breast CancerI had 4 rounds of AC each 3 weeks apart. After the last treatment, I noticed my eyebrows were starting to get thinner and the same with eyelashes. I never had enough chemo to lose them totally.
Comment 3I lost my hair first about 15 days after my first treatment. Then it was several more weeks before my eyebrows & eyelashes came out. :)

Hi Tsehave,
Hair loss occurs because chemotherapy targets all rapidly dividing cells—healthy cells as well as cancer cells. Hair follicles, the structures in the skin filled with tiny blood vessels that make hair, are some of the fastest-growing cells in the body. If you're not in cancer treatment, your hair follicles divide every 23 to 72 hours. But as the chemo does its work against cancer cells, it also destroys hair cells. Within a few weeks of starting chemo, you may lose some or all of your hair. (I started having hair loss 2 weeks after my first chemo. treatment) I hope this helps! Take care, Sharon

I said I wanted to see my hair go, this way I know the chemo is working. I started losing hair the sexing week and now it's all gone after my second treatment just Thursday. Remember it's temporary it will come back, and don't be discouraged, use this time to try on a nice wig. I'm currently waiting on one and in the meantime have been wrapping my hair in scarfs. Side effect but necessary evil! Be strong!
