Wow! I just feel like there are so many.
1. Joint pain and stiffness
2. Loss of libido
3. 50 point increase in cholesterol
4. Severe pain with intercourse.
5. Sweats - not night sweats. I get hot and sweat more easily now.
Thanks for sharing. I thought my doctor was just brushing me off when she told me it might be due to the chemo.

I have been on Tamoxifen for over a year now and I have noticed a few side effects but none are bad enough to discontinue taking it. I have knee pain and stiffness, which I treat with Aleve, gained about 10 lbs and some hot flashes but those are getting better. I am able to exercise normally so hopefully that will keep the weight from getting worse. Taking it is my security blanket actually. I feel I am doing something proactive to keep the cancer from rearing it's ugly head again!
I have been on Tamoxifen for alittle over 2months and have had more side effects than I ever thot I would have and dealing with them has been a pain, my Dr us considering changing to another drug.

From what I've read, there may be a possibility of a small scar on the lung but there are no symptoms from this and it is something that rarely happens . Also, the ribs on the side that was treated may be more fragile.
I also read that the treated breast tends to stay a little perkier and some women say that it looks a bit more youthful. Additionally, as we get older, we tend to gain weight naturally. They say that the treated breast may not gain as much weight as the untreated side. It appears that the long-term effects of radiation are subtle.
You're welcome. It's good to try to see the silver lining. I will keep you in my thoughts as you head into week 5. It's good to know that the short term effects (sunburned look and fatigue) will eventually subside after you're done with radiation. Take care.

Learning About Breast CancerMary,
If you are experiencing bloody nipple discharge, you need to consult your physician. It can be a serious sign of an underlying breast disease.

Yes, those symptoms can be a sign of breast cancer. You should have it checked out. Some communities have facilities that provide free mammograms for women without insurance. Please look into this right away! Every day does count!

No. If you have chemotherapy or radiation for breast cancer, those treatments can potentially weaken your immune system. But breast cancer itself will not cause you to get sick more easily.

The doctor told us chemotherapy lowers the immune system, so u have more chances to get sick.

Learning About Breast CancerSometimes your breasts can be sensitive around your cycle, but definitely talk to your doctor about your concerns. Even if it is nothing, you will at least have peace of mind!
